AGARTALA: To help alleviate the chronic blood shortage in the state's public hospitals and blood banks, around 100 doctors and other healthcare professionals from the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) volunteered to give blood during a voluntary blood donation event on Saturday.
The Agartala chapter of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) organized the blood donation camp in response to the Chief Minister's appeal for people to step forward and donate blood to help alleviate the crisis because the state's regularly scheduled blood donation camps could not be held during the previous month due to the assembly election, which was completed with the declaration of the results on March 2.
The chief guest at the blood donation camp was Chief Minister Manik Saha, who appreciated the initiative as many medical professionals donated blood.
Manik Shah also expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals for volunteering to donate blood in order to save lives, particularly the lives of patients who were in critical condition.
Along with AGMC, he continued, such blood donation camps are being hosted in many other locations, which will help to maintain a balance between the supply and demand for blood.
One of the healthcare professionals claims that the hospitals in the state are severely low on blood.
Around 70 to 100 bottles of blood are anticipated to be donated during the blood donation camp, according to Dr. Tushar Majumder, secretary of the ISCCM Agartala chapter.
"Blood donation was prevented because of the election, which led to a serious issue. We have set up this blood camp in response to the CM's call. 70 to 100 bottles of blood are anticipated to be donated with this blood donation,” remarked Dr. Tushar Majumder.
